I'm going with this verse from Proverbs this time around:
Megan L. from San Marcos: "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Proverbs 15:1 NIVI was talking about the verse with my five year old a while ago and instructing him to speak gently when playing with his friends and sister. Then I realized, I probably need to work on that too!

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Hi all,
My verses for these next 2 weeks are topical and (to be quite soul-bearingly honest) have to do with how I talk to dear children and to my dear my husband. The Lord has really convicted me in the area lately. I really want to reflect God in all I say, and that just isn't the case. :-(
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
Matthew 12:34b-37 (ESV)
[Also, I used to know this one, so I’m just reviewing it.]
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!"
Ps. 141:3 (ESV)
Next time, I think I'm going to start memorizing Proverbs 31:10-31. Since I'm being so honest here today anyway, I'll tell you quite honestly that I've always strongly disliked that woman! LOL! She's done nothing for me so far except make me feel completely incompetent. ;-)
But I know, of course, that is NOT why God has put her in His Word, so I've decided that the best way to stop disliking her is to get to know her better. And what better way is there to get to know her better than to study her, right?
So, next time I'll begin memorizing Proverbs 31:10-31, and hope to memorize about 3 verses per memorization period, which would cover about 7 memorization periods. I thought I'd mention it ahead of time in case anyone would care to join me... at their OWN rate, of course.
;-)

Gabrielle (Virginia) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Ephesians 6:9 (NIV)
Natalie (Pittsburgh) - I'm going to begin memorizing a portion of the Sermon on the Mount as encouraged by Ann Voskamp (One Thousand Gifts) www.aholyexperience.com
I'm so excited to begin!
"Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them." Matthew 5:1-2
Sarah V, Escondido: In continuing 1 Timothy, here's mine:
1 Timothy 1:16
"But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on Him and receive eternal life."
Danae L., Escondido:
"Come and see the works of the Lord, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." Psalm 46:8-9, 11
And this will complete Psalm 46 for me! Yee-haw!
Lynette Cooper from Fallbrook CA
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:30 KJV
Something I really need to be doing which I am failing at:(
Katy Whitcher: I love your honesty and I love reading your posts! Love ya :)
I think I might try doing it... But probably one verse at a time because my memory is awful lately ;)

I am going to memorize all of Psalm 103, but verses 8 & 9 are particularly special to me as it shows God's mercy, and how I need to emulate that for my children. I remind myself daily. So I'm going to memorize it out of order and start with those first, and then head to the beginning.
Psalm 103:8-9 (ESV)
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
Ruth-Oregon Gal. 6:9 ESV
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
To not grow weary of doing good is something that I can always be encouraged with.
I'm going to join my future daughter-in-law, Natalie, in beginning to memorize the Sermon on the Mount. This experience of memorizing Scripture this year has been such a blessing but all the more so for me since two daughter-in-laws and one to be are memorizing along with me. Blessed are such mother-in-laws!
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."
Matthew 5:3-6
We are learning Psalm 130 at church during Lent, so I'm going to officially put that on my list for this round.
Psalm 130:1-2 NIV
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
(Rebecca from Fallbrook)
Deb G from Ohio
A verse for me to think about during Lent:
Isaiah 53:5 NIV
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Jill L from Beaumont, CA
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Colossians 3:12, NIV
(Sorry I'm late again in posting!)
Summer from Holland, MI:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8.1 NIV
For the days when I hear "lies women believe."
Erika from ABQ, NM:
But as for me, I shall sing of Thy strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Thy lovingkindness in the morning. For Thou hast been my stronghold, And a refuge in the day of my distress.
Psalm 59:16 NAS

"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
Amy's verses (her choices... really! LOL!)

Yikes - super late but still here!!
"Do you have good reason to be angry? Jonah 4:4 (NIV)
This is the LORD speaking to Jonah. Can you imagine God asking you that? I am memorizing this verse so that when I do get angry it will be in the forefront of my mind so that I can KICK IT IN THE BUTT quickly and turn my attitude around and start acting like the transformed girl that I AM!!
Thanks, Edie! I needed that.
Karen from Carlsbad: (Just back from Kauai!)
Psalm 103:5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things. So that your youth is renewed like the eagles. (This is the last of the first 5 of this chapter that I am memorizing. On to something new next time!)
