Scripture Memory 2012: Verse 2

From our first verse, it looks like we have about 35 people participating. How awesome! I pray that we won't lose a single person as we go through this year. In fact, I pray we'll keep growing. If you know people that would still like to join, remind them that it's not too late since officially the goal is posting 21 out of 24 times.

A wonderful "problem" of having so many people participate is that we have quite a few duplicate names. From now on, let's post our first name, last initial, and where we live. That will help us keep people straight and hopefully help us get to know each other more easily in this little online community. So with that in mind, here's my verse for this time around:

Megan L. from San Marcos: If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. James 1:26 NIV

I really enjoyed reading through your selected Bible verses last time. It was neat to read what some of you wrote about why you picked your verse. I'm excited to read round two, so have at it!

"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."

Choosing to memorize a verse about circumcision might be a little weird, but I like the theme: don't get caught up in legalistic details. Just show people God's love.

"Here's what I want: Give me a God-listening heart so I can lead your people well, discerning the difference between good and evil. For who on their own is capable of leading your glorious people?" 1 Kings 3:9 (MSG)

I came across this verse a while ago and liked the application to being a mom and leading God's "glorious people" -- my boys.

"But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

I listened to an awesome sermon by Matt Moore from Cornerstone Church, Simi Valley that talked about serving God, the ministries we get involved in, etc. based on our strengths vs. weaknesses. I want to be more open to God using me where I am not comfortable and feel inadequate so that I can see His power and He can get even more glory in my life.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Danae L., from Escondido: "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5, NIV

I was excited this a.m. to realize it was the 15th and time to post our next verse. Before church began, I was thinking about which verse I wanted to use for #2; during the sermon, our pastor encouraged us to memorize just the beginning of this verse. And that is how I came up with this verse for the next couple weeks. In order to grow and to fulfill what God intends for me as his follower, I need to be rooted in Christ. Blessings to you all as you start #2!

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scripture's say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."

I am so thankful for this memory challenge! The verse that I memorized at the start of the month became my mantra! God laid this verse on my heart & I'm so excited to see how he uses this new one!

So this is the quintessential Christian verse and I don't yet know it by memory. Time to learn :)

I didn't grow up memorizing the Heidelberg catechism but was reminded in church this morning of its importance in understanding why I believe what I believe. My goal is to hit some of those questions and answers and memorize a verse that goes with each one. The above verse fits Q&A #1.

This is a verse I love to tell friends/family when they're going through a tough or scary time. However, I always have to sum it up and I never remember the actual verse number. It would mean more if I'd be able to say exactly where to go look for it.

I lost track of time and forgot to post verse one which was Romans 1:16-17

I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God to salvation for all who believe. First the Jew and then the Gentile. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith; as it is written, "the just shall live by faith."

My second verse is Psalms 25:4-5

Show me your ways, oh Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me.

I love this and have been so inspired to learn verses for the first time in a while! Thanks for doing this! =)

Jill K., I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  Praying for you and  your family.

Nice to "see" you, Edie G.!

Well, all...  I am definitely a newbie to blogging!  I thought my post from Jan. 1st disappeared.  I knew I saw my subsequent post at the blog, but I couldn't find it!  Then I realized that I  --along with 3 other ladies--  had posted January 1st verses to the "Instructions" page instead of the " Verse 1 " page.  LOL!

This Sunday, I was excited when I remembered that it was the 15th.  I even had my eldest son drill me on my first verse, so I knew I could focus on the next verse.  And I highlighted this week's verse in my bible on Sunday afternoon.   Then, I stupidly sat around waiting for an email from Megan or the blog.  Duh!   (Too bad I didn't ask you on Sunday morning, Megan.)  I finally went  "investigating" from the last email you sent out.

So, I am now "following" the blog.  Hopefully, that means I'll get emails from it.

[Megan, you might consider sending an email to the 10 ladies that posted 2 weeks ago that haven't posted yet for this week.  My guess is that they are the same 10 ladies that aren't "following" the blog and maybe 3 of them are those who posted Jan. 1st verses to the Instructions page before I did.  LOL!  Some of them might be in the blog-clueless department with me. You might also want to let Haley know where to post this week's verse.  I just noticed her 2nd verse listed at the Jan. 1st thread.  JAT]

ANYWAY!  LOL!  My verse(s) for this week are: 2 Tim 3:16-17 (ESV)
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be  competent, equipped for every good work."

Ginny D., I had to smile when I read that you and I picked the same verses.  Did you also pick them because of Bryan M.'s readily having them on the tip of  his tongue at the end of Sunday School this week?   ;-)

Lean not on your own understanding....I must acknowlege this daily! If I look at my circumstances fear can set in. God did not give us a spirit of fear!!

I'm going to do one very from each chapter of Romans as Eric Watkins suggested.
