Scripture Memory 2012: Verse 8

I forgot today was April 15th! Yikes! At least my taxes are done! Leave your verse and I'll add mine to the comments when I figure out which verse I'm going to do.

So... continuing to get to know the Prov. 31 woman:
"She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night.
She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle."
Prov. 31: 16-19 (ESV)

"Her lamp does not go out at night." Now THAT I have a handle on! :-D

Seriously, looking at verses 15 and 18 together...
“Her lamp does not go out at night” and “She rises while it is yet night”
...I was thinking, "So, when does this woman ever sleep?!?”

Thankfully, there was a note in my ESV Bible that referenced both verse 18 and verse 15 saying:
<< If the verses are taken to a literal extreme, they would imply that she never sleeps at all! But surely that is not true, nor is it intended (see Ps. 127:2). Rather, this is an idealized picture of a woman who is diligent to complete her work both in the morning and in the evening. >>

Whew! What a relief! :-)

I looked up Ps. 127:2, and it says:
“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”

So, I think I am going to memorize that one (Ps. 127:2) this time, too. I have literally only had 2-3 nights solid sleep in the last 3 weeks… due to “anxious toil.”

Still sticking with memorizing the excellent wife:) I have to say though that I have been lazy on memorizing my verses lately:( seems like this year has already been flying by so fast that the months are gone before I realize it... This verse I can relate to because I get up every morning at 5:30 with my husband to make his breakfast and lunch. For the maiden part... Well I don't think I have any ;) I love having gardens but our yard is too small for one... I love the excellent wife of Proverbs because it goes against the worldly view of what a stay-at-home wife and mother is!! We definitely have our hands full with taking care of our family and being devoted to the role God has given us:) and we don't even make money doing it... But the reward is much greater than any money I could earn...

Well, I kind of goofed in March. I had a really hard verse that was giving me memorization grief....So I made that one for all of March. It was Galatians 2:20. I can't remember if I ever posted it.

For April 1-15 I had Psalm 89:1, "I will sing of the Lord's love forever, my mouth will make your faithfulness known through all generations."

For April 15-30, I will do, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
